How much does GoFundMe take from a $100.00 donation?

For personal or business fundraiser in United States, GoFundMe charges 2.9% of the amount plus a fixed $0.30. Each fee line is rounded half-up to the nearest cent, as the platform bills it, and what you keep is the amount minus the sum of those lines.

A personal or business fundraiser donation: on $100.00 you pay $3.20 (transaction fee — personal or business fundraiser), and keep $96.80, an effective rate of 3.2%.

GoFundMe's own example, $500 from five donations: on $500.00 you pay $16.00 (transaction fee — personal or business fundraiser), and keep $484.00, an effective rate of 3.2%.

The same $500 raised by a certified charity: on $500.00 you pay $12.50 (transaction fee — certified charity fundraiser), and keep $487.50, an effective rate of 2.5%.

Frequently asked questions

How much does GoFundMe take from $100?

One transaction fee per donation, and nothing else: in the United States that is 2.9% + $0.30 for a personal or business fundraiser and 2.2% + $0.30 for a certified charity fundraiser. The percentage does not change with size, so ten $100 donations cost ten times what one $100 donation costs. The worked examples above show the exact payout.

Why does the number of donations change the fee?

The percentage applies to the total raised, but the fixed 30 cents is charged on each individual donation. A US fundraiser that reaches $500 in five gifts pays a $16.00 fee and receives $484.00, exactly as GoFundMe's own pricing example shows. The same $500 arriving in thirty small gifts pays the same percentage but thirty fixed fees instead of five.

Are GoFundMe fees the same in every country?

No. A personal or business fundraiser pays 2.9% + $0.30 in the United States, 2.9% + £0.25 in the United Kingdom, 2.9% + CA$0.30 in Canada and 2.2% + A$0.30 in Australia. A certified charity fundraiser pays 2.2% + $0.30, 1.9% + £0.20, 2.2% + CA$0.30 and 1.9% + A$0.30 respectively. The rate follows the organiser's country, not the donor's.

Is it free to start a GoFundMe fundraiser?

Yes. GoFundMe's pricing page lists $0.00 to start or manage a fundraiser, in every country covered here. There is no monthly charge, no listing fee and no charge for withdrawing what you raise; the transaction fee on each donation is the only deduction this calculator applies.

Do donors have to tip GoFundMe?

No. GoFundMe states that donor contributions are optional: a donor can add a tip at checkout on top of their donation, but it is never required, and the tip is not taken out of what you raise. Because the donor chooses the amount, this calculator has no tip control and shows only the transaction fee GoFundMe deducts.

How much do I need to raise to end up with a specific amount?

Switch the calculator to "I want to net" and enter the amount you need, then set how many donations you expect. It finds the smallest total whose payout, after the percentage and the per-donation fixed fee, lands within one cent of your target, and shows the fee alongside it.
