For most games (no publisher fee) in United States, Steam Community Market charges 5% of the amount. Each fee line is rounded half-up to the nearest cent, as the platform bills it, and what you keep is the amount minus the sum of those lines.

Who pays the Steam transaction fee, the buyer or the seller?
- Steam's answer is the buyer: its Community Market FAQ states that the buyer pays the Steam Transaction Fee, that the fee is calculated from the item cost, and that it is shown on the confirmation page before purchase. That is why the Market shows two prices on every listing — what the buyer pays and what the seller receives — and why this calculator starts from the buyer's price. The fee still costs the seller, because it is what makes the item cost more than the seller asked for.
Why is the fee on a $100.00 purchase $4.76 rather than $5.00?
- Because the 5% is charged on the item cost — the $95.24 the seller receives — and not on the $100.00 the buyer pays. 5% of $95.24 is $4.76, which is 4.76% of the buyer's price. Turn it around and the arithmetic is exact: to receive $100.00 you list the item at $105.00, where the fee is $5.00.
Which games charge the extra 10% Steam Market fee?
- Four: Counter-Strike 2, Dota 2, Team Fortress 2 and Artifact. Steam's FAQ describes each as a game-specific fee determined and collected by the game publisher, currently set at 10%, and it is charged on the same item cost as the transaction fee. On a $100.00 Counter-Strike 2 purchase that is $8.70 to the publisher on top of $4.35 to Steam. Every other game on the Market carries the transaction fee alone.
Is there a minimum Steam Market fee?
- Yes, $0.01, and only on the transaction fee. On a $0.10 purchase the seller receives $0.09 and the fee is $0.01 — 10% rather than 5%, because 5% of $0.09 rounds to nothing. Steam publishes no minimum for the game-specific fee, so this calculator applies none; on items worth a few cents that is the one place its answer could differ from Steam's by a cent.
Does the Steam Market charge a currency conversion fee?
- Steam publishes no figure for one. The Market shows prices in each buyer's Steam Wallet currency, and the Community Market FAQ read on 3 September 2026 gives no conversion percentage and no per-country rates, so this calculator covers US dollar wallets and adds nothing for conversion. Both rates here are quoted verbatim from that FAQ; the Steam Subscriber Agreement confirms Valve may charge a fee for marketplace transactions but names no percentage, so the schedule is marked medium confidence and re-verified at least every 60 days.
