Walmart Marketplace fees explained (2026)
By Fees.tools · Updated · Fees verified
Walmart Marketplace takes one cut of a sale: a referral fee set by the item's contract category. In most categories that is 15%, and the schedule runs from 6% on Personal Computers to 20% on the first $250 of a jewelry sale. There is no setup fee, monthly subscription or per-order fee. Every rate below is quoted from Walmart's Marketplace pricing page, verified on 3 September 2026, and drives the Walmart Marketplace fee calculator, which computed every example here.
What Walmart charges, by category
Thirty-five contract categories, each with its own rate. Twenty-five are one flat percentage at any price.
| Rate | Categories |
|---|---|
| 6% | Personal Computers |
| 8% | Appliances - Major; Camera & Photo; Collectibles; Consumer Electronics; Video Game Consoles |
| 10% | Plumbing, Heating, Cooling & Ventilation; Tires & Wheels |
| 12% | Automotive & Powersports; Base Power Tools; Industrial & Scientific Supplies; Musical Instruments |
| 15% | Home, Kitchen, Decor & Garden; Books; Luggage & Travel Accessories; Music; Office Products; Outdoors Products and Sports; Pet Supplies; Shoes, Handbags, Backpacks & Sunglasses; Software & Computer Video Games; Tools & Home Improvement; Toys & Games; Video & DVD; Everything Else |
The rate is charged on the total sales price, which Walmart defines as including "item price as well as shipping and handling, gift wrap and other charges" — so postage you bill the customer is part of the base. It is charged per item, so a mixed basket pays each item's own rate.
Two kinds of breakpoint, and the difference is money
The other ten change rate at a price, in two ways that look alike on a rate card but behave differently.
Five are graduated: the second rate applies only to the portion of the price above the breakpoint.
| Category | Rate |
|---|---|
| Appliances - Compact | 12%, then 8% above $300 |
| Electronics Accessories | 15%, then 8% above $100 |
| Indoor & Outdoor Furniture | 15%, then 10% above $200 |
| Jewelry and Precious Metals | 20%, then 5% above $250 |
| Watches | 15%, then 3% above $1,500 |
Only the top slice is re-rated, so the effective rate falls smoothly as the sale grows.
Five are brackets: crossing the breakpoint re-rates the whole price, not just the excess. Apparel & Accessories pays 5% at $15 or less, 10% between $15 and $20 and 15% above $20. Baby Products and Beauty, Health and Personal Care pay 8% at $10 or less and 15% above. Grocery pays 8% at $15 or less and 15% above.
In Apparel & Accessories, the fee on $15.00 is $0.75 and you keep $14.25, an effective rate of 5%. On the same item priced a cent higher, the fee on $15.01 is $1.50 and you keep $13.51, an effective rate of 9.99%.One cent doubles the rate on the whole sale, so the breakpoints are real price points.
Outdoor Power Tools runs the other way: 15% up to $500 and 8% above it, so the fee falls as the price crosses the line.
In Outdoor Power Tools, the fee on $500.00 is $75.00 and you keep $425.00, an effective rate of 15%. On the same item priced a dollar higher, the fee on $501.00 is $40.08 and you keep $460.92, an effective rate of 8%.Pricing so you keep a round number
Adding 15% to what you want to keep is not enough: the fee is charged on the total, including the part that covers it.
- A category at the standard 15%: To keep $100.00 you charge $117.65, and the fee is $17.65.
- A personal computer, at 6%: To keep $100.00 you charge $106.38, and the fee is $6.38.
The calculator's "I want to net" mode solves this for any category, including the brackets, where two prices can net the same amount and some amounts cannot be reached at all.
What this guide leaves out
- Walmart Fulfillment Services. WFS fulfilment and storage charges are billed separately: a WFS seller pays the referral fee above and their WFS invoice on top.
- Sub-type exceptions inside a category. Office Products is 15% but 12% for printer cartridges. Outdoors Products and Sports is 15% but 8% for hunting trail monitors, binoculars, telescopes, spotting scopes and night vision goggles. Both are noted in the fee table rather than split out.
- Collectibles sub-tiers. The seller-help schedule states 8% up to $2,500 and 2.35% above it for trading cards, comics, coins and autographed collectibles. The pricing page states 8% for the whole category, which is what the calculator applies.
- Advertising, returns handling, shipping and tax charges, billed separately.
When these rates last changed
This schedule was first verified on 3 September 2026 against Walmart's Marketplace pricing page and the seller-help "Referral Fee Schedule for Contract Categories", last updated 9 March 2026. The two agree on every rate and breakpoint, so confidence is high. The Walmart Marketplace fee changelog records later changes with their dates, the methodology explains how verification works, and rates are re-checked at least every 60 days. If a figure disagrees with what Walmart shows you, report it.
Frequently asked questions
Does Walmart charge a monthly fee to sell?
No. The pricing page states that Walmart Marketplace and Walmart Fulfillment Services "operate with competitive cost structures including zero setup, monthly, or hidden fees". That is unlike Amazon FBA, whose Professional plan is billed monthly — see how Amazon's fees work — or eBay, which adds a per-order fee on top of its category rate.
Which category does my item fall in?
It is agreed when you are approved to sell, and it sets the rate for everything sold under it rather than being chosen listing by listing. The fee table on the Walmart Marketplace fee calculator lists all thirty-five with their rate and breakpoint, and the calculator's fee table shows the verbatim quote behind every line.
