Gumroad fees explained: what it takes in 2026
By Fees.tools · Updated · Fees verified
Gumroad's fee is 10% + $0.50 per sale when a customer buys through your own Gumroad profile or a link you share, and 30% per sale when a new customer finds the product through the Gumroad Discover marketplace. There is no monthly fee, no listing fee and no separate processing charge on the published rate card. Every figure below is quoted from Gumroad's pricing page and was verified on 3 September 2026, and the examples are computed by the same engine as the Gumroad fee calculator.
What Gumroad charges
| Fee | Applies to | Rate |
|---|---|---|
| Direct sales (profile or direct link) | Sales through your profile or a link you share | 10% + $0.50 |
| Gumroad Discover (marketplace) | New customers who find you through Discover | 30% |
Gumroad's own wording for the first row is "per transaction for all sales through your profile or direct links to your customers", and for the second "per transaction when new customers find and buy from you through our discover marketplace". Nothing else is charged per sale. Its pricing FAQ puts it plainly: "Unlike other platforms, Gumroad doesn't charge you a monthly fee. Instead, our fees are deducted as a small percentage of every sale." The Terms of Service add that Gumroad "does not assess or collect 'listing' or 'insertion' fees", and that the fee is taken out of the buyer's payment before the remainder is settled to the seller.
On a direct sale, the fee on $100.00 is $10.50 and you keep $89.50, an effective rate of 10.5%.Which of the two rates applies
The rates are alternatives on any given sale, never added together. What decides between them is where the buyer came from: someone who already had your link, or a new customer Gumroad found for you in Discover.
On the same sale found through Discover, the fee on $100.00 is $30.00 and you keep $70.00, an effective rate of 30%.Only the direct rate carries a fixed part, so the gap between the two narrows as the price falls, and on a small enough sale they cost exactly the same:
On a small direct sale, the fee on $2.50 is $0.75 and you keep $1.75, an effective rate of 30%. On the same small sale through Discover, the fee on $2.50 is $0.75 and you keep $1.75, an effective rate of 30%.Below that price the fixed $0.50 makes the direct rate the dearer of the two; above it, the 30% is, and by a widening margin. A $100 product and a $10 product carry the same fixed 50 cents, so the effective rate moves with the price:
On a cheaper direct sale, the fee on $10.00 is $1.50 and you keep $8.50, an effective rate of 15%.Pricing a product to keep a target amount
Adding 10% to the amount you want undershoots twice over: the percentage is charged on the higher price as well, and the $0.50 has to be covered too. The calculator's "I want to net" mode solves it directly.
To keep $50.00 you charge $56.11, and the fee is $6.11.What this guide leaves out
Gumroad has been the merchant of record for every sale since 1 January 2025, which means it collects and remits sales tax and VAT worldwide. Those amounts come from the buyer on top of the price and are not part of the fee above, so this schedule does not model them. Three other things sit outside it as well: refunds and chargebacks, governed by section 7 of the Terms of Service; currency conversion, where Gumroad converts a price listed in another currency at a rate it determines, with no markup stated anywhere official; and payout timing and method, which vary by country. Affiliate payouts are set by the seller, not by Gumroad, so they are not modelled either. Gumroad publishes no per-country rate card, so the schedule here is the single global one, in USD.
When these rates last changed
Gumroad's pricing page carries no effective date, so 3 September 2026 — the day it was fetched and quoted — is the date recorded here, and the first entry in the Gumroad fee changelog. The schedule is re-checked at least every 60 days.
It is marked medium confidence. The Terms of Service confirm the mechanism, a per-transaction fee deducted from the buyer's payment with no listing or insertion fee, but they do not restate the 10% + $0.50 or the 30%, which are single-sourced from the pricing page. Gumroad's help-centre article on fees sits behind a login-walled chat widget and could not be read. The methodology explains how that judgement is made, the schedule is quoted line by line, with the verbatim source text behind every rule, in the calculator's fee table, and a wrong figure can be reported.
Frequently asked questions
Does Gumroad charge a monthly fee?
No. The pricing page states that it does not, and the Terms of Service rule out listing and insertion fees. The per-sale rate is the whole of what Gumroad publishes.
Is there a payment-processing fee on top of the 10%?
None that Gumroad publishes. Neither the pricing page nor the Terms of Service states a card-processing charge separate from the per-transaction fee, so none is added here. Figures elsewhere that bolt a processing percentage onto the 10% are third-party estimates rather than Gumroad's own.
Can I avoid the 30% Discover rate?
Only by not selling through Discover: the higher rate is what Gumroad charges for finding you a new customer. Sales from your own profile, your mailing list or a link you share are charged the direct rate instead.
How does this compare with other platforms?
Digital sales are priced very differently from one platform to the next: see the Etsy fee calculator for a listing-fee marketplace, or the Fiverr fees guide for a flat service-fee model with no fixed part at all.
