Teachable fees by country

Every rule on Teachable’s official schedule for United States, the market this calculator covers, as of 4 September 2026. A "0% transaction fee" plan is not a free sale: Teachable Pay's processing fee — 2.9% + $0.30 on a US card, 3.49% + $0.49 on PayPal — is charged on Builder, Growth and Custom exactly as on Starter, and the 0% assumes you use Teachable Pay or the Monthly Payment Gateway. What a plan costs per month is a subscription rather than a per-sale fee, so no rule states it and it is never deducted here. The plan rows below carry no fee of their own, which is why three of them read as no fee.

How much does Teachable take from a $199.00 sale?

For starter in United States, Teachable charges 7.5% of the amount. Each fee line is rounded half-up to the nearest cent, as the platform bills it, and what you keep is the amount minus the sum of those lines.

A $199 course on the Starter plan, transaction fee only: on $199.00 you pay $14.93 (starter plan transaction fee), and keep $184.07, an effective rate of 7.5%.

The same $199 sale with the student paying by US card: on $199.00 you pay $14.93 (starter plan transaction fee) and $6.07 (payment processing fee — US card), $21.00 in total, and keep $178.00, an effective rate of 10.55%.

A $199 sale on the Builder plan, where 0% still leaves card processing: on $199.00 you pay $0.00 (builder plan transaction fee) and $6.07 (payment processing fee — US card), $6.07 in total, and keep $192.93, an effective rate of 3.05%.

A $199 sale on Starter with the student paying by PayPal: on $199.00 you pay $14.93 (starter plan transaction fee) and $7.44 (payment processing fee — US PayPal), $22.37 in total, and keep $176.63, an effective rate of 11.24%.

A $1,000 sale on Starter by card, where the uncapped 7.5% shows: on $1,000.00 you pay $75.00 (starter plan transaction fee) and $29.30 (payment processing fee — US card), $104.30 in total, and keep $895.70, an effective rate of 10.43%.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Teachable take from a $199 course sale?

It depends on your plan. On Starter with the student paying by US card the fees are $21.00 — a $14.93 transaction fee and $6.07 of processing — and you keep $178.00, an effective 10.55%. On Builder, Growth or Custom the transaction fee is zero, so the same sale costs $6.07 and leaves you $192.93, an effective 3.05%.

Is a 0% transaction fee plan really a free sale?

No. Teachable's pricing page says there are "0% transaction fees on the Builder, Growth and Custom plans", but that is Teachable's own cut only: Teachable Pay's processing fee is charged on every plan alike. A $199 sale on Builder still costs $6.07 by card. The 0% also assumes you use Teachable Pay or the Monthly Payment Gateway.

What does Teachable charge if my student pays with PayPal?

3.49% + $0.49 instead of the card's 2.9% + $0.30, whatever your plan. On a $199 sale that is $7.44 of processing rather than $6.07 — on Starter, total fees of $22.37 and $176.63 kept; on Builder, $7.44 and $191.56 kept.

Does the plan's monthly price count as a fee here?

No. What a plan costs per month is a subscription, not a per-sale fee, so no fee rule states it and the calculator never deducts it. That matters when comparing plans: Starter's 7.5% is a variable cost and a higher plan's monthly price is a fixed one, and only you know your volume.

How much does the 7.5% cost on a larger sale?

It is uncapped, so it scales. On a $1,000 sale paid by card, Starter costs $104.30 in fees and leaves you $895.70, an effective 10.43%; Builder costs $29.30 and leaves you $970.70, an effective 2.93%. The $75.00 gap is the transaction fee alone, on a single sale.

What should I price a course at to keep $199?

On Starter with a card payment, $222.43, on which the fees are $23.43. On Builder, $205.25, on which they are $6.25. Adding the fee percentage to your target lands short, because both the transaction fee and the processing fee are charged on the higher price.
