itch.io fees by country

Every rule on itch.io’s official schedule for United States, the market this calculator covers, as of 4 September 2026. The revenue share is set by the creator in their seller settings, anywhere from 0% to 100%; 10% is only what applies when it is left alone, and the share control above moves this figure. The one-off tax-identity verification charge and the maintenance fee on a payouts balance left unclaimed for over a year are not per-sale rates and are not modelled.

How much does itch.io take from a $10.00 sale?

For goods and services in United States, itch.io charges 10% of the amount (itch.io revenue share (creator-set, default 10%)) plus 2.9% of the amount plus a fixed $0.30 (payment processor fee (PayPal or Stripe)). Each fee line is rounded half-up to the nearest cent, as the platform bills it, and what you keep is the amount minus the sum of those lines.

A $10 sale at the default 10% share: on $10.00 you pay $1.00 (itch.io revenue share (creator-set, default 10%)) and $0.59 (payment processor fee (PayPal or Stripe)), $1.59 in total, and keep $8.41, an effective rate of 15.9%.

The same $10 sale with the share set to 0%: on $10.00 you pay $0.00 (itch.io revenue share (creator-set, default 10%)) and $0.59 (payment processor fee (PayPal or Stripe)), $0.59 in total, and keep $9.41, an effective rate of 5.9%.

The same sale with the share raised to 20%: on $10.00 you pay $2.00 (itch.io revenue share (creator-set, default 10%)) and $0.59 (payment processor fee (PayPal or Stripe)), $2.59 in total, and keep $7.41, an effective rate of 25.9%.

A $2 game, where the processor's 30 cents dominates: on $2.00 you pay $0.20 (itch.io revenue share (creator-set, default 10%)) and $0.36 (payment processor fee (PayPal or Stripe)), $0.56 in total, and keep $1.44, an effective rate of 28%.

Frequently asked questions

How much does itch.io take from a $10 sale?

At the default share, $1.00 to itch.io and $0.59 to the payment processor: $1.59 in fees, leaving you $8.41, an effective 15.9%. That is the same figure itch.io reaches in the worked example printed in its own payments documentation.

Can I set itch.io's revenue share to 0%?

Yes. The share is a field in your seller settings and itch.io states you may set it anywhere from 0% to 100%. At 0% the same $10 sale costs $0.59 and leaves you $9.41; at 20% it costs $2.59 and leaves you $7.41. Only the processor's fee is unavoidable.

What is itch.io's payment processing fee?

2.9% + $0.30 per transaction, and it is the same whether the buyer pays through PayPal or by card through Stripe. It is charged on every sale, whichever payout mode you use, and it is not itch.io's charge — it is the processor's.

Why does a $2 game keep so little of its price?

Because the processor's flat 30 cents does not shrink with the price. On $2.00 the fees are $0.56 and you keep $1.44, an effective 28%; on $20.00 the fees are $2.88 and you keep $17.12, an effective 14.4%. The revenue share is 10% in both cases.

What should I charge to keep $10?

$11.82 at the default share, of which $1.82 is fees. Adding 10% to your target is not enough, because both the share and the processor's fee are charged on the higher price too. Lower your share and the answer falls with it.

Every rate above is quoted from itch.io’s official fee page and checked by a person on . The Creator FAQ (secondary) confirms the open-revenue-sharing concept ('you get to decide... what percentage of your sales should go towards our operational costs') but does not restate the specific 10% default or the 2.9% + $0.30 processor rate; those numbers come only from the primary 'Accepting Payments and Getting Paid' page, internally cross-checked against itch.io's own worked example on that same page ($10 - ($10 * 0.1) - $0.30 - ($10 * 0.029) = $8.41). A $3.00 one-time tax-identity verification fee and a maintenance fee on payouts-system balances unclaimed for over a year are mentioned on the primary page but not modeled as rules. at itch.io/docs/creators/faq. Single source: not every rate is restated by a second official page, so some rest on the official page alone.
